French Language Game – Great Ways to Learn French

There’s no need for learning French to be difficult. OK, it’s not a five minute job, but modern teaching methods have vastly improved the speed you can learn at and one of the great ways to do it is via the French language game.

Even the word sounds more fun doesn’t it! You have French language lessons or courses or you can have a French language game – which would you choose?

They’re not just for kids either – although teaching through play is one of the very best ways for youngsters to learn. Turning learning French into a game can be done by anyone, on their own or as a family, and the results are faster recall and therefore faster understanding.

There are lots of ways to do it too. The best software for learning French will often have games elements to help you learn but we’ll come back to that in a minute. Although it’s obviously a help, you don’t need French language software to start with, you can actually get going for next to nothing.

How about a game for learning French numbers? You can find the French for the different numbers in lots of places online but how do you make the learning fun? Well if you’re doing it as a family how about you associate the numbers with animals; one duck, two pigs, three cats, etc. It wouldn’t be too difficult to print out a few cards with a picture of the animal and the French word by it – oh, and you’re learning the names of the animals at the same time! If you’re on your own, challenge yourself. I used to do it with license plates – just translate whatever number you see to the French equivalent.

You can do the same with basic phrases. There are lots of places online to find free basic French lessons. All you have to do is add a bit of imagination to turn what you find from basic information into a French language game.

It’s much easier in the family situation of course. If all of you are learning together you can do a bit of role playing or find the French words and phrases for things you like to do with your leisure time. On your own it’s not quite so easy but this is where software comes into its own.

We’re lucky now that rather than the dry old textbooks of years ago we now have the home pc and interactive French software. For around $100 dollars you can buy a program that can have you competent in the French language in just a couple of months and whilst it’s not all play, games are an important part. For your money you’ll get all kinds of grammar, spelling and verb components that are interactive and involving. You also get the added advantage of sound files that you can copy to an MP3 player or CDs so you can learn some parts of the French language while you’re on the move.

You can find software for less than a hundred dollars, of course, and you might be tempted to try some of the cheaper packages. The trouble is you soon out-learn what they have to offer and find yourself needing more to make any progress. If you consider what lessons would cost, a hundred dollars isn’t a lot of money for something that can give you so much.

But as I said, you don’t have to start there. Anyone with the imagination to learn a foreign language can turn the same skills to creating a French language game. You’ll have more fun and you’ll learn faster as a result.

Need to Learn French Quick? When the Pressure’s on, One Course Delivers!

It’s nice to have time to learn a new language but sometimes it’s just not practical. Sometimes you just need to learn French quick. Maybe it’s because of work pressures, perhaps to take advantage of an unexpected chance of a holiday, maybe because you’re just impatient – that’s OK, me too! Whatever your personal reason, you want to learn French and you want to do it fast.

Not so long ago learning French in a short space of time wouldn’t really have been realistic. There were the old Linguaphone sets, and they certainly worked for many, but there were about a million tapes to get through and they were dull with a capital D! About your only other option was classes (not always easy to find or convenient) or a book or two – but it’s darn near impossible to learn French pronunciation from a book!

Now of course, with the internet and the availability of CDs or French MP3s, the whole picture is completely different. You can choose a range of ways to learn French from “audio books” (which are very good for taking around with you) up to full blown interactive courses costing several hundred dollars. There are advantages and disadvantages to a number of them but almost all offer scope for much faster French learning than would have been possible just a decade ago.

So from a position of little choice you now have what is in reality an embarrassment of riches – there are easily over a hundred different choices so which is right for you? How can you decide which is the best French CD, audio book or interactive course from those on offer?

My personal favorite, and one I know is recommended by many teaching professionals, is Rocket French. If you want to learn French quick, this might well be the right choice for you. How does just eight weeks from complete beginner to confident and natural French speaker sound? Pretty good I’d guess.

Rocket French uses a mixture of interactive training for learning French words and phrases and, via a series of pc based teaching games, written texts and a vast selection of French MP3s, takes you from knowing nothing at day one to mastery of a broad range of practical, everyday French in just a few short weeks.

In fact you could be speaking really quite useful French for real-world situations in just days and one of the great advantages of the course is that whilst there is a very good “road map” for learning the French language there’s no strict lesson plan so you can delve into any area of particular interest straight away.

Rocket French often comes out on top when matched against it’s competitors but when you consider that all this is available for under a hundred dollars you wonder how the other programs sell any copies at all! I honestly know of no other way to learn French quick that is so effective in such a short space of time and can take you on to a real confident knowledge of this complex language.

Let’s Learn French – It’s Fast and Fun With a Rocket!

There are many ways to learn to speak French from the traditional read-and-repeat to modern interactive courses. For most of us this will be something we’re doing in our own time so we want learning French to be as easy as possible and as much fun as possible. The last thing we want is to be bored – so lets learn French… with a Rocket!

I am, of course, referring to Rocket French, a breakthrough in modern language learning developed by a collaboration of French and English speakers so both sides of the coin are covered. And that’s something that’s so important. I can’t overstress the need to learn French from a French person. It’s absolutely vital for French pronunciation.

I don’t want to sound too serious – especially when we’re trying to make learning French fun, but I think this is key. If you’re trying to learn French from someone who was born speaking English, I don’t care how good he or she is, they aren’t French and the difference is clear. Honestly, I’ve lived and worked in France for over two years now (and been visiting for fifteen before that) and my French isn’t bad at all – but a French person knows instantly that I’m not from around here! They might compliment me on my ability with the French language, but they know I’m a foreigner. When you start to learn French you really don’t want that disadvantage from day one – you want to be listening to a French person giving the lesson so you can try and duplicate the pronunciation and intonation accurately. I know it’s not always easy – but you want to hear that French accent – not a mid west American one!

Fortunately with Rocket French, that’s what you get – so straight out of the box you’re on the right track.

I’m quite lucky in that one of my friends over here is a French teacher – as in she’s French. She actually teaches English and German to her French students during school time, and she makes a bit extra doing private classes for English speakers evenings and weekends. I introduced her to Rocket French a while back and now she recommends it to all her classes. She agrees with me that its light-hearted approach encourages fast learning but she also says that because it’s been conceived by French speakers it has absolutely correct grammar construction, something she says is vital. She’s also very keen on the fact that a whole section has been dedicated to verbs – an area that’s critical for good French but which is sometimes not covered well enough. The fact that it’s interactive and challenging to use rather than the traditional learning-by-repetition method is a bonus. Overall, she says she sees new students grasping the language not only faster but also that they speak better, more accurate French.

Rocket French calls itself an eight week course but to be honest there’s no-one breathing down your neck so you make your own timetable. However you approach it, imagine going from no French to competent, confident command of the language in just two months. How satisfying will that be?

So lets learn French, you say – my advice would be to strap yourself into the Rocket!

Learn French Phrases – Turn French Words Into Conversations

It’s not difficult to learn French words. Anyone can do it. Repeat the words enough to yourself and eventually they’ll stick. You could teach French words to a parrot – but it’s not language. When you want to turn words into useful sentences, into meaningful conversations, you need to learn French phrases.

So what’s a French phrase? Well a good place to start would be “Bonjour, comment allez-vous” (that’s “hello, how are you?” by the way). The French are normally very polite and almost every time you meet, no matter how well you know them, French will ask “Bonjour, comment allez-vous” or, if they know you well “Bonjour, ca va?” which means the same but is more informal.

I could go on through a whole string of short French phrases, “

Learn French Online – How to Speak the French Language

The French language is a beautiful sounding language that is a pleasure to learn. The problem I had when trying to learn though (and you probably have to) is that it’s difficult to learn a new language fast by reading a book. I began teaching myself French by reading many books, but never really made any significant progress, and certainly wasn’t confident of having a conversation in French. That all changed though thanks to lucky meeting!

Let me start by saying that learning a new language isn’t particularly difficult, but only if you are learning from a reliable source. This is to say that you need to be taught correctly and not just pick up any old book on “How to Speak French”. I think this is an error that many people make, and as a consequence a large percentage will never become fluent in speaking the French language as they give up because of slow progress.

At one stage I myself was going to give up learning French as I was finding it too difficult to get the hang of. Luckily for me I was introduced to a friend of a friend who happened to have learnt French. I felt embarrassed at first as he spoke a few sentences in French and wanted me to reply, but I couldn’t because I was simply not that advanced. I was quite amazed at how much of the language he knew so I began asking him how he learnt French. To my surprise he said that he began to learn French online.

My first impression when he mentioned learning French online was ordering a book to be delivered! It never occurred to me that there are high quality French learning resources online. The conversation that I had turned out to provide me with the advice that I needed and that has meant that I am now a fluent French speaker.

What made the difference by using this particular resource was that it didn’t solely depend on learning by reading through a book. It had hours of audio lessons, grammar lessons, and interactive software that really helps to clear up any misunderstandings you might have with sentence structure for example.

If you are thinking about learning French I would definitely say “go for it”! It’s a really nice language to speak and very enjoyable to learn. Please do yourself a favor though and save wasting money on the many French language guides available. Instead, invest in the same resource that I used and that I highly recommend in order to learn French online fast.

5 Ways To Learn French Free

Before the days of the Internet, learning a language free was not an easy thing to set up, or achieve, but with the Internet at your disposal, a whole new world of learning French has opened up. I am going to show you 5 ways in which you can learn French free.

1, Go to a French speaking country and hope for the best. This might seem like the most efficient option, because it seems to be closest to the way you learned your native language, but it isn’t quite as simple as that. Just going into a French speaking environment will not ensure that you learn French. What’s needed is a special kind of impetus. If you are lucky enough to hook up with a native speaker who would be willing to take you under their wing and teach you French, patiently, you have probably found one of the most efficient and pleasant ways to learn French. It can happen, but it is rare, especially if you want t learn French free.

2, Immersion in a French speaking country may not be an option for most people, but you can still learn French free, as long as you’re willing to seek out some essential resources both online and offline. Your first stop will probably be the Internet, where you will find a mixed bag of sites and free courses, some with sound files, to choose from. The standard of these resources varies, but if you’re willing to dedicate a little time and effort to Internet searches, you can learn French free online, to a certain degree.

3, Visit your public library and see if you can hire out a language course with tapes or CDs. This is a far better prospect than trying to cobble together a French course yourself from what you find on the Internet. There is an offline world too, and language courses that are produced by established publishing houses, such as Hodder or Routledge tend to be of the highest quality, something you can’t always be sure of when using resources published on the Internet.

4, Take part in what is known as a ‘language exchange’ with a French speaker who wants to learn English. Language exchange is just that: you will team up with a French speaker either online, or offline, and offer one another your native language speaking skills for equal time periods. This is great in theory, but in practice, it is only really efficient when you both have a certain amount of language under your belts. Being a native speaker of a language doesn’t always indicate that your partner will be an effective teacher. In this way, it can be a less than efficient way to learn French free from scratch.

Do a search for language exchange and you’ll see several sites on which you can sign up for a language exchange partner, if you don’t have access to native speakers of French in your vicinity.

5, Seek out online forums and discussion groups for learners of French. On such forums you will find not only beginners in French, but also learners with more advanced skills and even French teachers, both native and foreign, who will be willing to help you learn French free.

Participate in online forums on topics that interest you. Again, this is more suited to the slightly advanced learner, but it is there as a resource to learn French free, and all you need is an Internet connection to gain access to it. If you hobby is ice fishing, for example, find out what that term is in French and do a search for an online francophone community talking about ice fishing.

Learning another language, especially French, is always a benefit. If you want to be a “World Citizen”, then you must definitely know French.

French is a beautiful language, but one needs a method that makes it easy and fun to learn. There are a lot of courses available online, and many say that you can learn French fast with their system, but few of them have a fresh approach, with audio files and interactive games. There are only a couple of products that offer that and some even offer more.

There are a number of reasons for learning French, and even more reasons one would want to learn French quickly. Perhaps, you live in a French speaking country and want to improve communication with the natives. Or, it can help you if are about to travel to a French speaking country. Possibly you are a student who wants to get an A in your French class. Or, maybe you just have desire to learn the language of love! Those that have visited Paris have almost immediately fallen in love with the city and know that the whole experience would have been even better if they were more familiar with the language. Bottom line is that, whatever the reason, a quality French course will help you understand the beauty of the French language and in that way it will enrich you as a person.

The best way to learn a given language is to follow a program made by native speakers, with the right pronunciation, and pleasant voices that enunciate clearly. You need to learn the language by reading and listening, and if you are a beginner, the lessons should be understandable and basic.

What makes one French course different from another? That is probably the question that comes to your mind when you first hear about any language course. Well, there are number of reasons that make some courses better than others. First of all, the graphics should be really good and updated on a regular basis. This keeps the feel of the course up-to-date and stimulates interest. The audio files must move at a good speed, so you can follow along and repeat and really know what you are learning. Another requirement is that it’s very thorough, yet fun and you can always refer back to key elements of basic French at any point. Some courses have another benefit. They allow you to study at your own pace, which makes the entire program more flexible. You don’t have to change your schedule or conform to the plans of a language group. What’s more, with most quality French courses you can load the audio files to your iPod and take it anywhere with you. Some of the best courses even include newsletters with the program that give very realistic, real-life situations, where you can practice your French. All in all, there are many products out there that claim to teach French, but only a few offer a high quality course that will make learning French a pleasure.
